The wastewater generated during production and equipment cleaning appears visually clean yet contains abundant contaminants, including large volumes of suspended fine organic matter and elevated COD concentrations. Conventional flocculants deliver mediocre treatment results, making it hard to meet discharge standards while incurring high costs for sludge transportation and disposal. A critical industrial principle must be clarified: polyacrylamide grades are wastewater-specific and random selection is prohibited. Anionic PAM applies to sand washing and mine wastewater, whereas cationic polyacrylamide is exclusively suitable for cigarette factory wastewater and its biochemical sludge.

Cigarette factory wastewater is classified as typical organic wastewater laden with fine contaminants such as tobacco scraps, pectin, protein, and pigments. These micro-particles carry negative surface charges, remaining persistently suspended in water and eventually forming sticky sludge after prolonged retention. Cationic polyacrylamide carries positive charges; once dosed, it rapidly adsorbs fine suspended solids and organic pollutants, aggregating scattered micro-particles into dense large flocs.

The entire reaction process is intuitive with visible effects. The initially turbid yellow wastewater will form aggregated contaminants that settle rapidly after several minutes of mixing with the reagent, creating a distinct separation between clear, transparent supernatant and sludge layers. Beyond rapid clarification, the reagent firmly traps pollutants in the wastewater, effectively reducing COD and colority to effortlessly satisfy official discharge standards.

Apart from wastewater purification, this product perfectly addresses the most troublesome issue of sludge dewatering for cigarette plants. Sludge produced from biochemical tanks of cigarette factories features ultra-high moisture content with soft, sticky texture, which cannot be fully dewatered by conventional filter presses. The resulting sludge cake retains excessive water, causing dripping during haulage, occupying substantial storage space, and driving up transportation expenditures drastically.

After conditioning with cationic polyacrylamide, sludge flocs become compact, intact, and non-adhesive to filter cloths. It performs excellently across all mainstream dewatering equipment, including screw dehydrators, plate-and-frame filter presses, and belt filter presses, producing dry, solid sludge cakes. The moisture content and volume of sludge cake are significantly reduced, cutting transportation costs substantially and ensuring full compliance with environmental supervision requirements.

Below is a universal, easy-to-operate dosing procedure tailored for cigarette factories, operable even for novice staff:

  1. Prepare reagent solution solely with clean tap water to formulate a 0.1%–0.3% aqueous solution. Wastewater or hard water is forbidden for dissolution to prevent reagent inactivation.
  2. Agitate at low rotational speed for 40–60 minutes until the polyacrylamide powder dissolves completely without white agglomerates or undissolved lumps.
  3. Normally add PAC for coagulation in advance, followed by multiple small batches of cationic polyacrylamide under gentle stirring until compact flocs form. Over-dosing must be avoided to prevent reagent waste and adverse treatment side effects.

Important reminder: Cigarette factory wastewater has unique water quality characteristics, and not all cationic PAM grades deliver satisfactory performance. Cationicity that is too low leads to poor flocculation and dewatering effects, while excessively high cationicity results in unnecessary reagent consumption. Bench jar tests with on-site wastewater samples are strongly recommended to match the optimal model and dosage for cost savings and maximum treatment efficiency.
